E-mail upAll contractors performing work in unincorporated Cook County are required to register with the Department of Building & Zoning annually.

This section provides information for contractors to assist with the registration and annual renewal process, as well as property owners in Cook County looking to find a registered contractor.   Please submit ALL copies with your application as required.   Our office will not make the photocopies for you.

If you are a registered contractor with Cook County Building and Zoning, please be advised that your Contractor Registration Renewal is due effective December 1, 2011.

 

The submittal of the non-refundable  Fifty Two Dollars and Fifty Cents ($52.50) fee per trade registration will renew your registration from 12/01/2011 through 11/30/2012.

 

Currently registered contractors will receive a renewal letter and payment invoice in the mail in the third week of November.

Renewal Tips


The following TIPS will help to expedite the registration and the return of your 2012 contractor registration card: 
  
1. If multiple registrations, please submit only one child support compliance form and only one check. 
 
2. Write your registration number CLEARLY AND BOLDLY on all documents you
are returning.
 
3. The Certificate of Insurance for 2012 must show "Cook County Building and Zoning" as the Certificate Holder and must show our address: 69 West Washington, Suite 2830, Chicago, IL 60602.

Licensed Contractors Search

The Department of Building and Zoning allows building permit applicants to view contractors who are registered to do work in unincorporated Cook County (per the Cook County Building Code).

Contractor Registration Renewal

All contractors are required to renew their registrations with Cook County each year. Please submit the following for each trade:

General and Other Contractor Renewal

  • $52.50, per trade registration, payable to Cook County Building & Zoning

  • Certificate of Insurance for 2012 (including Cook County Building & Zoning as the Certificate Holder)

  • Child Support Compliance Data Form (must be notarized. for more information, see section below)

  • Bond (Demolition/Leveling; Sign) - please note that each bond must be accompanied with a $2.00 recording fee, made payable to the Cook County Clerk

Plumbing Renewal

  • $52.50, per trade registration - payable to Cook County Building & Zoning

  • Certificate of Insurance for 2012 (including Cook County Building & Zoning as the Certificate Holder)

  • Copy 055 - State Plumbing Contractor's Registration

  • Copy of current Fire Sprinkler, Septic, Well and/or Sewer Licence

  • Domestic Corporation Report (from Illinois Secretary of State - for current year)

  • Child Support Compliance Data Form (must be notarized. see section below for more information)

  • Copy of CCCDI License (if applicable)

Electrical Renewal

  • $52.50, per trade registration - payable to Cook County Building & Zoning

  • Certificate of Insurance for 2012 (including Cook County Building & Zoning as the Certificate Holder)

  • Current License with company name for year 2012

  • Child Support Compliance Data Form (must be notarized. see section below for more information)

  • Electrical Sign Contractor (ONLY) - Continuation Bond for Electrical Sign Contractor

Contractor Registrants Note 

Regarding Child Support Compliance: 
In accordance with the Cook County Child Support Ordinance, a Child Support Affidavit is to be submitted by every applicant/substantial owner for a County privlige to show they are in full compliance with any child support order before they are entitled to receive or renew such privilege.

 

Contractors registering or renewing to perform work in Cook County must submit this form along with their registration information.
